Pacific Opera Victoria has made an emergency casting change as Toronto tenor Adam Luther has bowed out of Carmen due to illness.

Luther fell ill prior to Sunday’s scheduled performance of Carmen at the Royal Theatre, which was postponed.

He has been replaced by American tenor John Pickle, who will fill the role of Don José in upcoming performances of Carmen at the Royal Theatre on Tuesday and Thursday. Pickle played Don José this summer with Oklahoma City’s Painted Sky Opera.

Those who had tickets for Sunday’s postponed performance of the Georges Bizet opera will have their seats honoured at the rescheduled date on Thursday. Ticketholders unable to attend can receive a refund at their point of purchase.

Tickets may also be exchanged for a gift certificate or donated back to Pacific Opera for a charitable gift receipt.
