Hunter Jarratt is passionate about protecting plants and animals native to British Columbia from the threat of invasive species.
Jarratt is in the Natural Resource Protection program at Vancouver Island University. He became inspired to tackle invasive species after volunteering to remove invasive scotch broom in Campbell River with the BroomBusters.
His favourite ecosystems are Garry Oak meadows, one of the rarest in British Columbia.
“There is only an estimated around 5% left in near natural condition,” he told Glacier Media.
Garry Oak ecosystems are incredibly bioverse, he says, supporting meadow flowers, including the common cama, chocolate lily and fawn lily.
