Some B.C. Ferries sailings out of Nanaimo’s Departure Bay have been cancelled on Thursday as one of the vessels on the route — the Queen of Oak Bay — was pulled out to take over on the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale route.

The Queen of Surrey normally serves the Sunshine Coast route but has been experiencing mechanical problems.

The Queen of Cowichan is running alone on a modified schedule on the route between Departure Bay in Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver.

Departures from Departure Bay were scheduled for 10:40 a.m., 3:20 p.m. and 7:40 p.m., while Horseshoe Bay departures were set for 1 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 9:40 p.m.

B.C. Ferries said it will contact customers with bookings on cancelled sailings to let them know if there is space available on an alternate sailing later in the day.

Customers travelling without reservations are encouraged to travel as foot passengers or consider travelling on the Tsawwassen to Duke Point route.

As well, mechanical issues with the Northern Sea Wolf’s anchors prompted B.C. Ferries to cancel service on the Port Hardy to Bella Coola route through to Nov. 20. The ferry also serves Ocean Falls, Shearwater and Bella Bella.

Poor weather has also led to cancellation of sailings on the Northern Expedition on Thursday and Friday between Prince Rupert and Skidegate.
