A 95-year-old Nanaimo man has died after a house fire broke out on Adams Road on Friday.

A neighbour, who had a key to the home, heard a smoke alarm go off and tried to enter the house but flames and smoke were too intense, Const. Gary O’Brien said Saturday.

Nanaimo firefighters arrived and found the man inside the home.

The fire does not appear suspicious, O’Brien said.

Next of kin have been notified.
