A video-game arcade in downtown Victoria was closed for the weekend following an exterior fire.

Staff working at Quazar’s Arcade arrived at 1125 Government St. on Saturday morning and found an exterior pillar on fire, the store said in a statement on social media.

The fire appeared to have started on the street level and spread to the pillar near the entrance of the store, filling the underground arcade with smoke, the store said.

Firefighters removed the store’s arcade games from the area before turning on the hose, it said, adding: “Our collection of games remains almost completely intact, albeit a little smoky.”

The arcade was closed on Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, Quazar’s Arcade announced that the closing would continue for at least another day “out of an abundance of caution.”

People can access the company’s arcade games at their other store, Pinhalla Pinball Pizzeria on Fisgard Street, it said.
