Investigation underway after fatal Vancouver Island helicopter crash

The helicopter, which had just the pilot on board, crashed Aug. 15 at Brooks Peninsula, on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death of the lone occupant of a helicopter that crashed on northern Vancouver Island last week.

Victoria’s Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre dispatched a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter to Brooks Peninsula, southwest of Port Hardy on the west coast of the Island, at 3:20 p.m. Aug. 15.

The 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron from CFB Comox also responded and its members recovered the victim, said Maritime Forces Pacific public affairs.
