Today is a big day for Vancouver Island’s legions of Swifties.

That’s when they’ll find out whether they have a shot at buying tickets Thursday to Taylor Swift’s Vancouver shows in December 2024.

Katrina Tran knows her chances are slim, but that hasn’t stopped her from doing all she can to boost her odds.

In order to enter the lottery, fans needed to create an account linked to a cellphone number.

With a little help from her friends, Tran had 11 accounts entered in today’s lottery.

Randomly selected accounts will receive an email today letting them know either that they’ll get a text Thursday to vie for a ticket when sales open, or that they’ve been put on a waitlist.

“The more entries you have, the better chance, but I have 11 of 34 million or whatever is going to be in there,” Tran said.

An estimated 31 million people signed up to get into the lottery for Swift tickets in Toronto when those tickets were released in the summer, freelance music publicist Eric Alper said on iHeartRadio in August. Ticketmaster has not released official numbers on the demand for tickets.

Tran thinks even more will be vying for a chance this time, because the Dec. 6, 7 and 8 Vancouver shows are the only Swift concerts currently being ticketed, and the buzz around the tour is building.

The three Vancouver dates were announced last week for Swift’s The Eras Tour at B.C. Place in December.

Tran got the news from her daughter, who texted her: “TAYLOR ANNOUNCED VANCOUVER DATES! GO GO GO!”

She jumped into action right away, signing up with Ticketmaster and asking loved ones to make accounts for her.

Tran has some experience under her belt, having been one of the lucky ones to score tickets to a Swift concert in Seattle. She knows what to expect if she does get into the sale.

“If you get in, you just buy what you see. There’s no time to look around because there’s so many people in there looking at them,” she said.

Lola Deweerd, 14, is also waiting to find out if she gets lucky in the lottery and will have a chance to try to buy tickets on Thursday.

She was at the orthodontist when she heard about the Vancouver tour dates.

“I got very excited. I told my orthodontist. He did not care,” she said.

As soon as her appointment ended, she signed up for the lottery. She has six accounts entered for herself, and deals with friends that if they get tickets, they’ll take her and vice-versa.

If she doesn’t get tickets, her mom has said they can go and stand outside B.C. Place to listen to the concert from there and go on a shopping spree.

“I can’t even think about it because I’ll get my hopes up too much,” she said.
