Nanaimo RCMP have charged a man with first-degree murder in connection with a daytime shooting in a Wendy’s parking lot more than three years ago.

Ronald Joseph Campbell, 42, has been charged with the murder of Yasin Khan.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. on May 20, 2021, at Rock City Plaza, a shopping centre on the Island Highway near the intersection with Bowen Road.

Police have previously said the killing was linked to gang conflict in the Lower Mainland.

Campbell is currently in custody.

Khan, born in 1995, was linked to the Red Scorpion-Kang group, according to a Vancouver Sun report at the time.

Two other murders in Coquitlam and Calgary within days of Khan’s death were believed to be linked to violence in Metro Vancouver.
