Nanaimo RCMP want to stop what they call “rolling snow forts” — vehicles covered in snow that the driver failed to remove before hitting the road.
Driving snow-covered vehicles poses a safety threat to everyone on the road, police said.
Rather than issue tickets, officers from the Nanaimo Municipal Traffic Unit have been talking to drivers and in some cases giving them tools to clear the snow, said Const. Gary O’Brien.
“The interaction they have had with motorists during the recent snowfall is an example of their dedication to public safety, as well as road-safety education,” said O’Brien.
