Flames were reported to be up to nine metres high at a Tuesday-night house fire south of Campbell River, says the chief of Campbell River Fire Rescue.

Crews responded about 7:30 p.m. to a home on the Island Highway and found it was fully involved, Fire Chief Dan Verdun said.

Two other homes were threatened by the flames and heat, but crews were able to protect them, Verdun said.

Crews also had to contend with downed power lines.

Residents were home when the fire started but got out safely.

The cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined.
