The District of North Saanich is canvassing residents to determine priorities for its 2023 budget.
Residents have been asked to fill in a survey at northsaanich.ca/budget before Feb. 17 on how they feel about the types of services the district provides.
The feedback will be used to drive council’s discussions of this year’s budget and capital spending program.
Last year’s $22.8-million budget is expected to increase in 2023 to $23.5 million, as property-tax income is set to increase to $15.4 million from $14.5 million in 2022.
The 2022-26 financial plan calls for a 3.95 per cent increase in overall property taxes to cover core municipal operations, library and infrastructure replacement.
Capital expenditures of $10 million last year are expected to be considerably less in 2023 at $5.7 million.
On top of the survey, the district’s 2023 budget webpage also includes background information and previous financial plans.
Paper copies of the survey are also available at the municipal hall at 1620 Mills Rd.
The district intends to have its 2023 draft budget available for public review and feedback by the end of February, with the adoption of the next five-year financial plan set for May.
