The Oak Bay Fire Department’s main engine is sidelined for repairs after a crash involving a van just before noon Tuesday that the department called minor.
An ambulance attended the crash on Cadboro Bay Road near Cedar Hill Cross Road but no one in either vehicle was injured, said Oak Bay Fire Chief Frank Macdonald. “We’re happy about that,” he said.
Macdonald said a reserve engine that is kept at the firehall for training purposes and for use during maintenance on the other vehicles has been brought into service.
The department also has a ladder truck in its fleet, Macdonald said.
He said the engine involved in the crash suffered minor body damage and needs some work on the front bumper area. “We can’t drive it as is.”
