There is another confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Island Health region, amid 81 new cases in B.C. announced on Monday.
The figures from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry includes new cases from Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Henry announced limits on the numbers of people who can be in short-term vacation rentals, including homes, boats, yurts, cabins and hotel rooms: the capacity of the space, plus up to a maximum of five visitors.
The provincial health officer noted people are having parties in their rental suites, boats and houses, which has led to the virus being transmitted. Henry said it’s the responsibility of the property owner to ensure the order is adhered to, and contact information must be gathered.
Two new deaths in long-term care in the Vancouver Coastal Health region were announced on Monday, bringing B.C.’s total to 193.
There are 10 active cases of COVID-19 in the Island Health region and 264 active cases in the province. Eleven people are in hospital with the virus across the province, including three in intensive or critical care. None are in the Island Health region.
As the B.C. Day long weekend approaches, Henry asked British Columbians to take precautions to reduce the potential for the virus to spread among friends and family.
Health officials continue to ask people to take steps including vigorous hand washing, logging contact numbers, maintaining a physical distance from others, wearing a mask when that space can’t be maintained, choosing outdoor settings over indoor settings with contacts, getting tested for the virus if you have symptoms, and staying home whenever you’re sick.
There have been 143 reported cases of COVID-19 in Island Health and 3,500 cases across the province since the beginning of the pandemic.
