One sent to hospital after Port Alberni fire

One person was sent to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation after an early morning fire in Port Alberni.

Port Alberni Fire crews who responded to the 3800-block of Redford Street at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday extinguished the blaze in just over an hour.

The fire broke out in a residential apartment above a commercial space, but damage was contained to the suite.

The cause is considered accidental and was traced to the kitchen area of the apartment. Volunteer fire departments from Beaver Creek, Cherry Creek and Sproat Lake also attended.
