Police nab two excessive speeders within minutes on Malahat

Excessive speeding penalties kick in when drivers are travelling more than 40 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.

Two excessive speeders were nabbed within minutes of each other Thursday morning by West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit officers patrolling the Malahat near Okotoks Road.

Both drivers received a $368 ticket and had their vehicles impounded for seven days.

Excessive speeding penalties kick in when drivers are travelling more than 40 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.

Police didn’t say how fast the drivers were going, but a photo shared on social media suggested one of them was clocked at 124 km/h.

On Thursday, the traffic unit caught a driver travelling 116 km/h in a 60 zone along Sooke Road in Metchosin.

The driver was issued a $368 violation ticket for excessive speed and three points against their licence, police said. Their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.
