Police release vehicle images in connection with teen's death near Duncan

Police say they believe the three vehicles are connected to the hit and run death of Leanne Joe, 17, in April

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have released photos of three vehicles believed to be connected to a hit-and-run that killed a teen in April.

Leanne Joe, 17, was killed while walking along the Trans-Canada Highway between Sherman and Green roads about 9:50 p.m. on April 18.

Emergency crews found her dead at the scene.

On April 26, police announced they had recovered a vehicle believed to be connected to the hit and run, after saying they were looking for a grey 2011-13 model Hyundai Elantra with damage on the front driver’s side.

They did not say whether they had a suspect in the hit and run, but issued a call for dashcam video from people who were driving in the area from 9 to 9:45 p.m.

The images of a white pickup truck, an SUV-style vehicle and a car were recorded as they passed Arbutus Ridge Golf Course in the Hutchinson Road area of Cobble Hill on April 23, police said.

No more information was made available.

Anyone with information about the vehicles or the hit-and-run is asked to contact North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.

Leann, who would have turned 18 in May, had six brothers and three sisters.

Her family issued a plea for the driver who struck her to come forward, as did Cowichan Tribes Chief Cindy Daniels.
