West Shore RCMP are looking for dash-cam video and witnesses in a hit-and-run that caused significant damage to a car during rush hour on the Trans-Canada Highway on Thursday.

Police are asking drivers who were near the 1900-block of the highway in View Royal between 4:45 and 5:30 p.m.to check their dash-cam video. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.

RCMP said a red Hyundai Elantra was travelling northbound with a black pickup truck behind it when the truck came alongside the Elantra and collided into the driver’s side twice.

Though the occupants of the Elantra were not physically harmed, police said the vehicle sustained significant damage and the impact flattened a front tire.

The driver of the truck briefly stopped, but left the scene prior to exchanging information with the victim.

The make and model of the black pickup are unknown, but police said it was driven by a Caucasian man in his 40s with grey collar-length hair and wearing a blue-and-white polo shirt and shorts.

This hit and run took place during rush hour and not only impacted the victim, but had the potential to put other motorists in harm’s way, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar of West Shore RCMP.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and has information is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
