Sewage pipes were delivered Monday to the corner of Dock and Niagara streets in Victoria’s James Bay neighbourhood to begin a weeks-long project that with block motor vehicle traffic from Niagara Street.

Niagara Street between St. Lawrence and South Turner streets will be used as the staging area to weld together pipe sections as part of the region’s $765-million sewage treatment project.

Crews will work 12-hour days to assemble the metre-diameter steel pipe, which will run 940 metres between Ogden Point and McLoughlin Point.

The Capital Region District has warned that residents of Niagara Street will be able to reach their homes only by foot during the six weeks of intensive construction.
