Transit buses to run between Duncan and Nanaimo six days a week

Transit riders in Nanaimo and the Cowichan Valley will soon be able to travel regularly between downtown Nanaimo and downtown Duncan with the launch of a new bus route on March 28.

The new limited-stop service, which will be called Route 70 NCX Nanaimo-Cowichan Express, was announced Monday by B.C. Transit, the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Cowichan Valley Regional District.

Buses will run seven round trips a day Monday through Friday and six trips on Saturday.

Stops will include downtown Nanaimo, Nanaimo South Parkway Plaza, Nanaimo Airport, 1st Avenue at Highway 1 in Ladysmith, Drinkwater Road at Cowichan Commons, Beverly Street at Duncan Street near Vancouver Island University, Duncan Train Station and Village Green Mall in Duncan.

The route will be monitored to ensure the service meets demand.

A one-way fare for the route will cost $7.50. Monthly passes will also be available for purchase beginning March 15 for April passes that can be used starting March 28.

A list of participating ticket vendors and a detailed preview schedule for the route will be available on March 14 for customers to begin trip planning.
