Two protesters arrested after chaining front doors at DFO office in Saanich

Two women were arrested Thursday after chaining the front doors of a Fisheries and Oceans office. They told Saanich police officers their intent was to lock employees inside the Commerce Circle site to protest the use of open-pen fish farms in B.C.

Two women were arrested Thursday after chaining the front doors of a Fisheries and Oceans office.

They told Saanich police officers their intent was to lock employees inside the Commerce Circle site to protest the use of open-pen fish farms in B.C.

Police asked the women if they would take the chain off, but they refused. After further discussion, the women decided to give up the key and were arrested for mischief.

The incident started about 8:30 a.m. and was over by about 9 a.m.
