A woman was arrested in Campbell River after she allegedly spat in a business owner’s face and claimed to have COVID-19.

Campbell River RCMP were called to Cedar Street on Nov. 25 at 8:30 a.m. after someone reported an altercation between a business operator and a group of people who had set up camp in front of the store.

The owner tried to move people along while opening the store, and a 37-year-old woman in the group became aggressive. She verbally accosted the business owner, spit in her face and spit on the business door, claiming to have the virus, said Const. Maury Tyre, a spokesman for Campbell River RCMP.

Officers arrested the woman nearby. She faces charges of assault and mischief and was released on conditions pending a court date in January.
