B.C. has gone six days with no known COVID-19 deaths for the first time since last August, when the province went 11 days without such a fatality.

The province has also seen a slight declines in serious infections, with fewer COVID-19 patients in hospitals and intensive care units. There were 65 people in hospital Wednesday, down from 66 on Tuesday, and 11 people in ICUs, down from 14 — numbers not seen since last fall.

Officials reported 41 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, including one in the Island Health region. There are 639 active cases in B.C.

Island Health has the lowest number of active cases, with 24, while Vancouver Coastal has the most with 258.

B.C.’s death toll stays at 1,760.

The province has now administered at least one shot to 3,674,169 British Columbians over the age of 12, or about 79 per cent of eligible residents. Almost 2.2 million people — about 47 per cent of those eligible — have received two doses.

In the past day, 5,766 British Columbians received their first dose of vaccine, while 61,284 others received second doses, according to government data.
