One-year-old Wilder Kevin World was struck and killed by a vehicle in Cobble Hill.

The community of Cobble Hill is coming together to help the family of a one-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday.

The incident happened in the driveway at a Maynard Avenue residence.

The boy has been identified by friends and family as Wilder Kevin World.

A fundraising page set up for his family describes Wilder as “a fun-loving little boy, full of energy and had an infectious smile. His spirit lives on in his three older brothers and older sister, who loved him deeply.”

The page was created to help cover funeral and other expenses while the family heals.

The Cobblestone Pub’s Jake Teufel said he has known the family his whole life. “Everyone always wants to reach out and help but you don’t want to interfere,” he said. “Luckily somebody set up a GoFundMe page, so that’s something that we’re going to throw some money at.”

A community event is also in the works, Teufel said. “We’ve got a big party coming up here on Canada Day and we’re going to make some extra money.”

The event will be held from noon to 9 p.m. in the park at the Cobble Hill Farmers Institute, across the street from the pub.

“There’s a stage at the back of it and we’ve got four bands lined up,” Teufel said.

And even though the kitchen at the pub isn’t quite fully running after a 2018 fire, it will still be put to use for the family’s benefit, Teufel said.

“We plan on cooking off some frozen meals, get some stuff in the freezer so they don’t have to think about that kind of thing,” he said.

Shawnigan Lake RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate.
