Downed power lines on the 1900-block of Store Street cut power to nearby businesses Thursday morning, forcing them to close.

B.C. Hydro said the power went out to 387 customers at about 9:30 a.m. after a motor vehicle crash.

B.C. Hydro said power was restored by 4:30 p.m.

Staff at businesses on Store Street said they were told a garbage truck was driving with a dumpster on top of the vehicle and the extra height snagged power lines and partially knocked down a power pole.

Without power, businesses were forced to close for the day.

They expect to reopen today.

Kylie Black, chief operating officer of Capital Iron, said the store wasn’t able to open in the morning and staff were sent home because power was expected to be off for the day.

Black estimated the loss of revenue from the closure at tens of thousands of dollars.
