Five new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on Island over weekend

B.C. reported 123 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, including five in Island Health.

There were 658 active cases of the virus in the province on Monday, down from 661 on Friday, and 22 on the Island — 12 in the central region, seven in the south and three in the north.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the total at 1,760 to date.

The province reported 46 new cases from Friday to Saturday, 47 new cases from Saturday to Sunday, and 30 new cases from Sunday to Monday. The numbers are provisional and may be updated.

Of the 658 active cases in B.C., the Vancouver Coastal Health region has the most active cases at 257 followed by Fraser Health with 175, Interior Health with 167, Northern Health with 30, and Island Health with 22.

Sixty-six people are in hospital with COVID-19 in hospital, including 14 are in intensive care.

There are no outbreaks in long-term care or assisted living facilities and three in acute care settings: Laurel Place at Surrey Memorial Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody, and Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

As of Monday, 78.8 per cent of eligible B.C. residents 12 and older had received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly 45 per cent are fully vaccinated.
