Loukoumades - a hot treat similar to mini doughnuts - are prepared at the 2018 Greek Fest. This year's event is going to look a little different thanks to the pandemic.

Greek Fest is back for a 19th year, with a few changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event began Friday and continues through Sunday at the Greek Community Centre, 4648 Elk Lake Dr. — next to Saanich Commonwealth Place — then returns from Sept. 4-7.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily

Because of COVID, Greek Fest will feature drive-through food pickup, online ordering and a cultural tour by reservation.

The menu includes roast lamb, souvlaki, spanakopita, baklava, loukamades and more. Organizers suggest taking your food to nearby Elk/Beaver Lake for a socially distanced picnic.

The cultural tour delves into the history of Greece and of Greeks in B.C., including Juan de Fuca.

Last year’s Greek Fest attracted more than 23,500 people.
