A cyclist sustained minor injuries after being struck by a car at the corner of Beach Drive and Ripon Road.

Oak Bay police responded to the Sept. 24 incident about 6 p.m. and discovered the driver had stopped at the stop sign on Ripon, but failed to yield to the cyclist travelling on Beach Drive.

The cyclist fell off the bike and suffered injuries that included cuts to a hand, and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The 42-year-old woman driving was issued a $167 ticket for failing to yield after a stop.

“This incident highlights the importance of all road users adhering to traffic rules to ensure everyone’s safety,” said Deputy Police Chief Kris Rice.

“We are grateful that the cyclist’s injuries were not more severe, attributed to them wearing a helmet, and remind drivers to be vigilant, especially at intersections.”
