A 66-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and assault with a weapon — his car — on Thursday, after he allegedly drove into someone at slow speed when he was confronted about drinking and driving.

West Shore RCMP were called about 3:35 p.m. to the Peninsula Co-op gas station on Goldstream Avenue after a report of a hit-and-run in Langford.

Witnesses relayed the vehicle’s licence plate number to officers, who were able to quickly track the grey 2005 Mazda 3 down and arrest the driver.

The driver gave a breath sample that showed a a blood-alcohol level that was twice the legal limit, police said.

The car was impounded, and the man was given a notice to appear in court and a 90-day driving prohibition.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police said they will be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel for consideration of criminal charges.
