A high streamflow advisory has been issued for northern Vancouver Island following heavy rainfall Sunday and Monday.
The advisory is in place for the entire northern region of the Island, including tributaries and smaller streams around Port Hardy, Port Alice, Zeballos and Tahsis.
The River Forecast Centre said precipitation of up to 70 to 90 millimetres had fallen on the north Island over the past 36 hours, with rainfall expected to ease beginning Monday evening.
Peak flows in waterways will likely occur on Monday and Tuesday for most systems, the centre said.
The streamflow advisory followed a rainfall warning issued Monday morning by Environment Canada. Zeballos and Tahsis were expected to be hardest hit, with up to 100 mm of rain.
