“At this time, there appears to be no risk to the public and the child was not physically injured,” Saanich police said Friday.

A woman says her nine-year-old son was almost abducted this week in Royal Oak.

She said in a Facebook post that a man approached the boy from behind and carried him “a house or two away.”

At that point, the boy was able to get free and run home, the post said.

The post said the man, described as white and in his 30s, was last seen on Shawnee Road, near Royal Oak School.

Saanich police on Friday said only that they are investigating a report involving a child in that area.

“At this time, there appears to be no risk to the public and the child was not physically injured,” Insp. Damian Kowalewich said.

“Our officers continue to investigate to determine the exact circumstances, and more information will be released as needed.”
